Great value home with lots of space inside and out.This cottage has been in the same family for years and was recently completely renovated. New furniture, fresh paint and a whole new cottage!

Two bedrooms with two full baths each with stand up showers with ledge; no tubs. This is a great family home! Pet-friendly with a fenced in yard. Fabulous patio and the screened in porch is like another room! Easy 4 block walk to the beach. Ground level makes this a very easy home for our older guests to get around.

  Our vacation was amazing! This is the 2nd time visiting Fun In The Sun. Walking distance to the south beach, the pier and all the shops. Best place to eat Stingrays. Cleaning crew should pay close attention to the living room sofa, it has a very foul odor. Other than that the house was acceptable. The Mermaid staff was a pleasure to work with. We will differently work with them again.

  We arrived from the Chicago, IL area to find Fun in the Sun a wonderful home and comfortably settled in for our stay. We traveled with our 9 year old Welsh Terrier. She was very happy in the home. This was not our first trip so while we explored the area (including Savannah).
  
  Unfortunately Hurricane Ian was predicted to hit the area, so we elected to leave early. We had consulted with Tammy and she was very helpful in helping us make the decision.
  
  We will return to be able to enjoy a full week on Tybee in the future.
  
  As for the house. We found it clean and welcoming. Thank you to the staff for your help and friendly personality!

  There is none better than Mermaid Cottages!! I rented Fun in the Sun for the month of August and it was the best decision I could have made. Diane and Tammy made sure I was well taken care of the whole time. Fun in the Sun is a sweet little cinderblock cottage with a wonderful screened in back porch. It may be a small home, but the set up gives lots of options for the guests to sleep and visit.. I LOVE this place!! I have stayed on Tybee for almost 20 years.   We had a great time. The screened porch was wonderful and really added to the living space of the home. The backyard was also very nice. Location is great - we were close to the beach. Our only dislike was the outdoor shower. You have to hold the handle down for the entirety of your shower. If you let go the water turns off so that made it not very usable for us. Otherwise, the place was great and we’d return for sure.

  The main problem was we had a doggie and there wasn’t a blade of grass in the entire yard. We had to walk to neighbors yards which in many cases of was filled with sand spurs. They did say they would transfer to another cottage but we were already unpacked and had gone to the grocery

  In my opinion this property i exactly what I look for in a beach cottage. Clean, simple and charming. My visit was with my 2 kids (6 and 9) and it would have been comfortable for maybe 1 more.
  
  It has a few quirks like that you get to the 2nd bedroom through the first, but I liked that it meant the kids were tucked away and would not be disturbed by noise from the LR. The screened porch was comfortable most of the day and we enjoyed the hammock and swing. If you visit Tybee I highly recommend renting a golf cart. The parking fees are paid for (huge savings) and it really enhanced the experience.
  
  Because of COVID scarcity bring your own soap dispensers for the bathroom. The kitchen was well stocked including dish soap. The linens were fantastic and the King was pretty comfortable but not brand new or memory foam if that's important to you. The LR furniture is gorgeous so I covered it in blankets from home to protect it from the onslaught of snacks ;-)

We have shared this with both our housekeeping professionals and our Pre arrival team to make sure we always improve. One reminder for you and all our guests- we had made a post arrival call/ text to you after check in and you had said everything was fine. We purposely contact all our guests after they have checked in for this exact reason- if things are not mermaid perfect- we want to know so we can correct the problem(s) while you are here. We easily could have come over and re cleaned the floors, sprayed for ants ( we use non toxic products for bugs). We never want our guests to not want to recommend the home to other guests.   Great experience from start to finish. Like that we didn’t have to go to an office to check in. Cottage great size for four people and two small dogs. So happy we could bring our two small dogs! Fenced in back yard was great for the dogs. Swing in front very nice. Wish there was more landscape to enjoy, make it seem more tropical. Liked the screened in porch. Was very nice to have linens/towels provided! Ground level very convenient and easy!!

  The cottage was a bit dated but that was understood and expected. There should be more “time appropriate “ (1950’s) furniture. We did have ants that we had to call about but it was handled quickly. The door to the screened in porch would lock but could jut be pushed/pulled open. We really enjoyed our stay and the staff was very friendly.

It is well appointed, charming and a very short walk to the beach. Staying there gives you the feeling of being wrapped up and cozy in an old fashioned beach town of yesteryear.   THE COTTAGE IS DECORATED WITH EVERYTHING BEACHY, MAKING IT SO CUTE AND APPEALING. IT'S ALSO EXTREMELY CLEAN WHICH REALLY RATES WITH US. OF COURSE, BEING OLDER, THERE'S AREAS THAT COULD USE A BIT OF ATTENTION. THE UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE WAS COMFY, BUT IN BAD NEED OF EITHER RECOVERING OR REPLACING. THEY'RE VERY SOILED AND FADED. BED WAS VERY COMFY. DID KILL MANY SMALL WORMS ESPECIALLY IN THE BATHROOM AND SOME OTHER INSECTS. THE COTTAGE LOCATION WAS GOOD. THE BEACH WAS THE BIG ATTRACTION FOR US. PAULA DEANS SEAFOOD GRILL AND THE CRAB SHACK WERE THE BEST PLACES TO EAT. THE MANAGEMENT CO. WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND THE CHECK IN AND DEPARTURE WERE VERY EASY TO DO.

  This was a nice clean house just the right size for us. It was good for our small dog also. The only negative comment I have is the location. It was hard to walk to the beaches,which is what we like to do. However, I must say it was over 100 degrees when we stayed.

    It was indeed a little warm while you were here! Fun in the Sun is only 3 blocks to the beach, and 2 of those blocks are 2 houses long, and the third is about 6 houses, so maybe it just seemed further than it really is in that warmth. ;) Come try us in the fall, the walk won't seem so far! ~ Jennifer & the Mermaids

  We had a great time and the cottage was very comfortable for 5 people.The furniture in the advertising pictures were not the ones shown in living room and screened porch. The furniture was a lot more work but they were comfortable just don't know why they they had to mislead. With that said everything worked and we had plenty of not water. The screen porch really makes the cottage feel larger and we spent most of our home time there. You won't be disappointed, easy drive to Savannah and short walk to the beach.

  Fun in the Sun Cottage was just right for a relaxing break. Very clean, well appointed cottage with screened room and fenced yard for our dogs. Comfortable sleeping and living room chairs and sofa and spaciously arranged. Very quiet at night, a bit of traffic in the day, but not disturbing. Easy 1/2 block to get to the bike/walk path that runs the length of the island. Parked our car and walked everywhere on Tybee. Great location to relax and yet drive into Savannah for touring, dining and exploring. The managers of Mermaid Cottages communicate before, during and after your visit and are a text away should you need them.

  My husband, 16 year old daughter and spent the first week of January 2019 at Fun in the Sun. We love Tybee in the off season. This house was perfect for us! We had everything we needed! There are two tables so that you can have games and jigsaw puzzles in progress as well as a table to dine on! Lots of pots and pans and plenty of utensils! Grocery store, beach, pier, restaurants are all very easy to get to by bike or on foot.

  We rented this cottage for a family wedding held in Savannah. The travel time to Savannah was about 30-40 minutes depending on which side of Savannah we had to go and the time of day.
  The cottage was well equipped with everything you would need to make quick breakfasts to grilling steaks(great Grill set) and being 2 blocks from the IGA was a Huge plus.
  The only thing we didn't find was a clothes line to hang our beach towels and suits on after a day at the shore, but the fence posts worked out well.
  
  The fenced in yard was HUGE and our dog loved being able to run and play.
  
  We enjoyed all the seating on the screened in porch and it worked out perfect with all the families dropping by for visits over the long weekend.
  
  Our walk to the beach was about 10 min. and the walk to pier area was about 20 min.

  We enjoyed father's Day with 3 fathers on Tybee. Our family had 3 different houses because there were 16 of us. The weather was gorgeous and our time at the beach very pleasant. Our house is on a dangerous rode. Much caution needs to be taken when backing out. also walking on the road with cars speeding is a risk. Be prepared to leap into yards or bushes.

Plenty of room for all of us. Diane was very helpful and gave us many insights about the the island. We spent a lot of time on the beach as the cottage is a short 4 blocks. Easy walk.   Lovely cottage home feeling, beautifully decorated. Very comfortable beds and plenty of room with so much charm. Plenty of starter supplies. Only one suggestion-my husband is a movie nut on vacation-might consider adding a DVD player. That's his thing while me and kids are shopping or at the beach!

  We enjoyed our short time at the cottage. It was a perfect size for our family of 3,along with our dogs. Great location, close to beach/stores/back river. The beds were comfortable and the indoor living area was great. Lots of supplies for the kitchen. Fenced yard was great for the dogs, although small dogs could get through the gate. The only improvement we could see was the furniture in the screened in porch. Chairs needed to be replaced. Clean interior and well maintained.
  We loved this little cottage!! We would return and rent it again.

  Arrived at the vacation house found out that the big oak tree was gone which was terribly disappointed for that was one reason we chose this location. Due to heavy rains there was a lot of Palm bark scattered throughout yard and all over the carport.which tracked alot of dirt in the house.

  The cottage is the perfect size for a small family. We loved many aspects: distance to beach and IGA, screened porch, hammock, swing, and the beds were very comfortable. A few small items would be helpful: pizza cutter, plastic dishes for kids, more teaspoons, a bathtub, and a dust pan for the broom. It was okay for small children, but I missed the bathtub. I hadn't realized Jones was such a main street, but it turned out to be just fine. It wasn't as busy as expected. I felt comfortable walking with my children.
  We rented a golf cart for the week and I would highly recommend touring the island that way.

Grocery and other shops were close by; within walking distance also. Our only disappointment was that Jones St. was a major traffic road from 1st St. to the South end of the island and 17th St. More stop signs should be employed to slow traffic down.

  Really pretty and clean and so many lovely amenities. Fully stocked kitchen for cooking -- we went to the Tybee Farmer's Market by the lighthouse on Mondays 4-7 and got some amazing fresh pasta and walked to the IGA a bunch. My girls loved the bunk beds, we all loved eating on the screened-in porch, I loved laying on the hammock, Diane was SO helpful when we were worried we might have forgotten a beloved stuffed animal and went right over to look for it. Luckily our daughter had packed it for us after all! ;)

  My family and I had a wonderful stay at made in the shade. The location is in walking distance to nearby beaches, restaurants, and the grocery store. We found the interior to be cutely decorated and very clean. The screened in porch was a nice place to hang out at the end of the day. I need to contact the management a few times with questions. They responded within a few hours even on a Sunday. I found them to be very helpful and courteous. I would not recommend this location to people with young children as it was on a road that had consistent traffic.

  The first time my partner and I visited Tybee Island, we fell in love with it even though we stayed for a few days. On our second visit, we stayed for a full week at Made in the Shade. This centrally-located cottage is within walking distance of the beach, the one grocery store, the bike shop, and The Social (a local hipster-ish restaurant/lounge). We liked our cottage on our first stay, but this time the owners had done some renovations and redecorating which made the property even more comfortable and pleasant. Much to everyone's surprise we didn't have a car but, instead, uber-ed from the airport and then back and forth from Savannah when we wanted. We did rent bikes which offered us quick,easy access to all corners of the island. Before going to Tybee, I packed up some art supplies and sent them to the Mermaid Cottage staff who graciously delivered it to my door once it arrived. They accommodated all of our whims, even allowing us to have a late check out. (Of course, it was off season so probably no one was coming into the house after us.) All in all, Tybee Island, the Mermaid Cottage staff, and Made in the Shade cottage provided a perfect autumn get-away. I look forward to my next visit.

  We had a wonderful time in this cute little cottage. It was very beachy and it had lots of little extras available. The Mermaid hosts were fabulous to work with and were always communicating and were one step ahead of my next question. The location was excellent, quiet, but close to everything on the island. The cottage was clean, but could use and updated set of furniture for the living room. We would definitely recommend renting a golf cart for the week, going to eat at The Crab Shack and buying the No Gnats natural bug spray for those pesky sand gnats!
